Deep Tissue ~ Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscle located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and patients who have sustained physical injury. It is not uncommon for receivers of deep tissue massage to have their pain replaced with a new muscle ache for a day or two. Deep tissue work varies greatly.
Deep tissue massage is a separate category of massage therapy, used to treat particular muscular-skeletal disorders and complaints and employs a dedicated set of techniques and strokes to achieve a measure of relief. Deep tissue massage is applied to both the superficial and deep layers of muscles, fascia, and other structures. The sessions are often quite intense as a result of the deliberate, focused work.
Injury ~ Specifically targeted injury massage helps soft-tissue injuries (such as muscle pulls and strains, tendonitis, ligament sprains, and whiplash) heal faster. Massage reduces spasm, pain, swelling and formation of excess scar tissue. Massage also breaks up excess scar tissue and adhesions (stuck together tissue) that weaken muscle and contribute to further injury. Injury massage creates tension and stretch that breaks up excess scar tissue and helps align the new tissue fibers. This process makes the injured site stronger and less prone to new injury. Massage also increases circulation to the injured area, bringing needed nutrients and removing waste products produced in the healing process. Injury massage is not necessarily relaxing and can leave you feeling sore for a day or two. However, it is not necessary to be in a lot of pain after the massage - that is too much work for your body - always let your massage therapist know how you felt after your last massage.
Sports ~ Sports massage is a form of bodywork that uses deep tissue and swedish massage techniques specifically adapted to deal with the effects of intense physical exertion on the body.
The modality is used before, during and after many athletic events. It has been found to enhance athletic performance by keeping muscles at their peak of flexibility and strength, while warding off injury. Massage after great exertion reduces ones level of stiffness and muscle soreness. For some athletes a massage helps keep anxiety at a minimum before competition. The Sports massage practitioner can use certain techniques to increase body stimulation previous to an event, which increases mental alertness. Regular sports massage sessions have been shown to improve an athlete's speed, strength, endurance and flexibility, as well as shorten recovery time between events.
Trigger Point ~ This therapy is a technique that involves the applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. Trigger points are areas of tenderness in a muscle. There are two basic types of trigger points: active and latent. Active trigger points cause muscular pain and will refer pain and tenderness to another area of the body when pressure is applied. Latent trigger points only exhibit pain when compressed, they do not refer pain to other areas of the body. Latent trigger points are believed to be one of the causes of stiff joints and restricted range of motion of old age. The pain caused by trigger points may be the biggest cause of disability and loss of time in the workplace. Trigger point therapy is almost always integrates with other massage modalities. Muscles will be warmed up for several minutes before attempting any type of trigger point. Trigger point can be painful, but most people describe it as a "good pain". Clients are told that on a scale of 1-10, the pain should never be more than a 7. Most clients who have chronic pain and receive trigger point therapy claim that it is miraculous.
Swedish ~ The therapist uses firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation and
Cranial Sacral ~ A technique based on Cranial Oseopathy. Cranial Sacral therapy seeks to restore the natural rhythmic movement found between the bones of the skull and the sacrum. The purpose of this is to aid the circulation of the cerebral spinal fluid throughout the central nervous system.
Reflexology ~ The practice of massaging or pressing on parts of the feet with the goal of encouraging beneficial effects of other parts of the body or to improve overall health.

Hot Stone ~ Hot stone massage is a form of massage therapy that uses specialized stones
Indirect Myofascial Stretching ~ The myofascial release approach is a form of soft tissue therapy used to treat somatic dysfunction and resulting pain and restriction of motion. This method involves a gentle stretch, with only a few grams of pressure, which allows the fascia to 'unwind' itself. the dysfunctional tissues are guided along the path of least resistance until free movement is achieved. The gentle traction applied to the restricted fascia will result in heat and increased blood flow in the area. This allows the body's inherent ability for self correction to return, thus eliminating pain and restoring the optimum performance of the body. *this is a specialty massage and will include an additional charge
